Our Protocols

  • Oversight & Risk Management

Our Executive Committee of student staff plan and run our trips with oversight and support from our adult employee director team and volunteer board of directors. Every trip includes at least one of our adult directors and volunteer chaperones. All adult chaperones undergo background checks and sexual assault prevention training. Student staff leaders undergo first aid and leadership training, and we empower student staff to lead activities on the trips, with adult support and oversight. While chaperone numbers depend on the needs of each trip and our trip-specific risk management plans, we strive for a 1:10 chaperone ratio for students on the trip, and we often have more chaperones than this to ensure safety throughout all trip activities.

For each trip we have a carefully thought out Risk Management and Emergency Response plan. These policies, protocols, and procedures are followed to encourage safety, prevent injuries, and to respond to emergencies. If you would like a copy of the Risk Management for a specific trip, please reach out to the trip lead and/or director@post84.org.

  • Behavior Agreement

All staff and campers must sign behavior agreements for every POST trip, which outlines their commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students. At the bottom of the page you can see our expectations for campers and all student staff members. The following are not allowed during any POST 84 activities:

    1. Sexual intercourse. 2. Drug use, including alcohol consumption, nicotine and vaping. 3. Physical violence of any form. 4. Sexual harassment. 5. Hate speech. 6. Derogatory language or actions. 7. Discrimination of any kind, intentional or not. 8. Purposeful damaging of other people’s property. 9. Stealing. 10. Failing to intervene or report any of the actions listed above.

Actions that break this agreement result in immediate meeting with the Director on the trip, contact with parent/guardians, and potential suspension from participation in future trips.

  • Absences from School

POST84 is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization, independent and not affiliated with Seattle Public Schools.

We realize that the ability to get an excused absence may affect participation on POST84 trips. Absence policies are handled on a school-by-school basis, some schools offer excused absences and others do not. We are aware that Garfield does not offer excused absences for POST trips.

We understand that this may be a concern and we do offer day trips, shorter weekend trips and summer trips throughout the year that do not require students to miss school.
